Castelló’s *The Dark Blue* is the continuation of her 2013 solo work *Sonic Blue*. Once again, the theme revolves around “water/sea”, and the piece evokes associations with horror or science fiction films, which in most of the cases are related to water in some form.

*The Dark Blue* was also a London-based literary magazine, which appeared monthly from 1871 to 1873 and in which the famous story of the female vampire Carmilla was first published.

The piece is written for the ten-member soloist ensemble, the Castelló Tentet, which is made up of top-class Austrian and international musicians. *The Dark Blue* is divided into seven contrasting movements/parts, meandering between freedom and limitation, scope and restriction, autonomy and collective consent. But rather than mostly dark it will be mostly blue in all its splendour and its enigmatic shades. (ac)
